OUR STORIES

One Month Away from MLK!

On Martin Luther King Day weekend, we will host our third annual PeacePlayers’ Martin Luther King Jr. Day weekend celebrations!

Across all five of our PeacePlayers’ sites within the United States, we will bring communities together by hosting a day full of both on and off court celebrations, with local basketball tournaments, educational activities and more, all celebrating MLK’s legacy in our communities.

The theme for the day’s events this year will be “Dream. Believe. Unite.” Together we’ll celebrate and live into Dr. King’s vision of Beloved Community. The foundation of the beloved community is how we see and treat one another, it is a love and care that “makes no distinction between a friend and enemy; it is directed towards both”.

For almost 20 years PeacePlayers has used the power of sport to unite communities and empower new generations of young leaders to make a difference in their communities. Over MLK Weekend, as our participants come together in their communities around the country, they will be uniting not only with those that they share the court with, but with their fellow leaders for peace around the country. These events serve as a key milestone each year for PeacePlayers U.S. as we work to create a network of youth leaders who come together across community divides to create a more peaceful and equitable society.

Save the dates, and follow us on social media using the hashtag #PeacePlayersMLK as we go live throughout the weekend from our celebrations happening across the U.S. on January 18th and Monday January 20th.  We will be sharing stories and updates of impact from around the country.

Stay tuned!
