Ntobeko, more commonly known as “Chief”, was born in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. He grew up in the Umlazi Township and started playing sport at a very young age, participating in soccer and athletics. In 1999 his friends, who were going to multiracial schools at the time, introduced him to basketball. In 2001, Piwe Ntsutsha (a PeacePlayers International – South Africa coach in Umlazi) invited him to his basketball session at Saphinda Primary School in Umlazi where he began his interests in PeacePlayers International – South Africa (PPI – SA) and its cause. Ntobeko volunteered and started to help Piwe weekly. He was hired as a coach the following year (2002). Ntobeko grew within his role as a coach and was promoted to the position Program Manager of the Umbumbulu area. Ntobeko is currently the Life Skills Coordinator. Ntobeko is a trained HIV counselor and is trying to further his studies in Child and Youth Development.
