Originally from the USA, Rebecca moved to Israel with her family when she was eight years old. As religious Jews with nationalistic ideology, Rebecca’s parents, along with their five children, moved to Givat Ze’ev, an Israeli settlement located behind the green line. In addition to living in an Orthodox Jewish community, Rebecca received a strict religious education at an all-girls school in Jerusalem. During and after her military service, and while completing her BA in Business and Marketing, Rebecca played professional basketball in Israel and represented her country on the National team, on which she has been playing since the age of 17. Until joining PeacePlayers as a basketball coach, Rebecca had never met a Palestinian. Rebecca was introduced to PeacePlayers when the basketball club where she was coaching partnered with the organization. Much to her dismay, she was assigned to coach the Jerusalem All-Stars mixed team. As a result, Rebecca very quickly underwent a life-changing transformation that has led her to where she is today. Three years later, Rebecca is still coaching the Jerusalem All-Stars, leads and mentors her Palestinian and Israeli players, and visits them in their homes and shares meals with their families. Rebecca currently coaches some 100 young women in Jerusalem – religious, secular, Arab and Jewish – using the game of basketball to foster understanding, respect and friendship.
