During an ordinary summer, youth basketball players all over the United States spend their break either at basketball camps or scrimmaging with their friends at local parks. They come together in-person to improve their skills and build lasting bonds with their teammates.
This summer, however, these plans have come to a halt as a result of the current global pandemic. Basketball courts have closed, camps are cancelled, and teams have not been able to meet in-person for months. At PeacePlayers, we realize that our youth need interaction with their teammates and peers now more than ever. To address this problem, PeacePlayers United States is coming together, with the support of our partners at Nike and Laureus Sport for Good Foundation, and uniting each of our 5 sites across the country for the first-ever PeacePlayers Virtual Summer Camp!
Following the structure of regular PeacePlayer practices, this FREE camp will integrate basketball skill sessions with leadership development and peace education designed to build connections among the youth. Fun games and challenges have been created for the new online format, and coaches are doing all they can to ensure Virtual Summer Camp feels like a true basketball camp experience.
In this week-long program, PeacePlayers will be providing players with the opportunity to connect with youth from a wide variety of communities and cultures from all across the country — an opportunity they would not receive from a typical summer camp. Our goal is for players to personally grow, learn, and meet new people while they get active and play the sport they love.
Camp will be held from July 27-July 31, 2020 from 1PM-5:30PM EST. Players ages 9-14 are welcomed. If you know anyone that might be interested, you can send them to this link for registration which is now open. If you have any questions, contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more information!
