PPI-SA All star Girls’ Team travels to Pietermaritzburg!
This past week the PPI-SA Allstar Girls’ team travelled to Pietermaritzburg (45 minutes south of Durban) to participate in the the Pietermaritzburg Girls’ high inter-schools invitational basketball tournament. This year was the first time, PPI-SA was able to participate in this tournament. Over 10 schools from all over South Africa participated in the tournament that ran from Friday (July 29th) to Sunday (July 31st).
Our PPI-SA team was the only non-profit organization that participated in the festival. The participants on this team were selected because they showed excellent leadership and team-oriented skills. The tournament is officially being renamed to The Val Fowler Inter-schools Invitational Tournament after Ms Valerie Fowler, whom is the founder and the main organizer of the tournament since it began.
Other schools that participated in tournament included St Mary’s Diocesan School for Girls from Johannesburg, St Johns Diocesan School for Girls from Pietermaritzburg, Danville Girls High from Durban and of cause the hosting school, Pietermaritzburg Girls’ High School, just to name a few. Below are the results from the four games played by the PPI-SA Allstar team:
- PPI (13) vs The Glen(14)
- PMB Girls (22) VS PPI (17)
- PPI (8) vs St Mary’s DSG (16)
- PPI (12) vs Danville (21)
We would like to thank PMB GHS for inviting us this year, and hope to be a part of the tournament again next year. Also, huge thank you to the US Embassy South Africa for funding our participation in the tournament!
