PPI-SA Ready for the 27th City Wide Tournament

PPI-SA participants at the 26th City Wide Tournament.

This upcoming weekend, PeacePlayers International South Africa will be hosting its 27th City Wide Tournament. Each year PPI-SA hosts two tournaments, in June and October bringing together every Primary School participant. While the October tournament allows youth to play with their teams against other schools in a winner takes all style event; in June children are placed on mixed teams and play with youth from other PPI-SA schools.

It is incredible to see the progress throughout the day. At first participants are nervous and hesitant to play with youth they have never met before, but by the end of the event countless new friendships have been formed and relationships built.

This City Wide Tournament also sees the launching of the gear PPI-SA received from Adidas South Africa. All coaches will be wearing Adidas Gear and participants will be wearing Adidas branded bibs. Once again, a special thank you to Adidas South Africa.

We are also excited to announce that the team from Soft Beverages (Cooee) and their Frapple mascot will be making a special appearance at the tournament and providing refreshments for our participants and volunteers. A special thank you to the US Consulate General Durban and Goldman Sachs Gives for the underwriting of this tournament.

We are expecting over 400 children, 50 volunteers and approximately 50 parents and spectators from 8 different communities such as uMlazi, Lamontville, Wentworth & the City. The day is going to be filled with fun, basketball and forming of new friendships.

The 27th City Wide Tournament will take place on the 11th of June 2016, at Hoy Park Baseball And Recreational Sports Complex from 8:30 am – 15:30 pm. If you are in and around the area of North Beach, be sure  stop by to support your local teams.
